Intermittent delay on Top 5 scoreboard

Our track has a Top 5 position scoreboard with a lap count and lap time display. It has worked great for years but lately it sometimes has a delay displaying the position changes. We moved into our new timing center a few months back and have noticed the intermittent delay happening more and more. Any ideas what it could be? It is really frustrating when the board does not update until a half lap later and the crowd thinks our lap timing is also off.

The scoreboard updates are generated by the transponder software and output as a string of data known as Rmonitor. The RaceAmerica scoreboard interface control software, Orbits2SB, receives the data string, massages the data and forwards wirelessly to the scoreboard. The scoreboard interprets the data string and manages the update of the scoreboard. In general, intermittent updates of the scoreboard are caused by inconsistent RF signals between the tower transmitter and the scoreboard receivers. Next update is received and the scoreboard makes several updates at once appearing delayed.

In your new control tower location, where is the antenna located that is connected to the USB Wireless Unit 4520?

An antenna should be located outside the building mounted in a location with line-of-sight to the scoreboard. The external antenna is connected to the 4530 with a coaxial antenna cable.

The antenna installed on the previous tower is still there. It never was moved to the current control tower location. The 4520 has a little 6inch black antenna attached to it and the 4520 sits on the table next to the timing computer. I will move the antenna to the new building and see if the intermittent scoreboard update and delay goes away. How we missed that one ,,,
