How to test my LED display?

I have an older 6860 display and need to know if it is working. I can connect it to my PC but I when I run my software and nothing shows up on the display. How can I test if the display is working?
First, flip all the DIP switches on the display to ON except for DIP 8, set it to OFF. Power on the display and connect it to the PC.

and run it on the PC. Select the PC COM port for the display and you should be able to send ET and other things if the display and cable are working.
