Troubleshooting Guides

Problem: Drag Tree stopped working properly.
One or more lights on the drag tree stay illuminated or do not illuminate.
If the tree does not step through the visual Startup Selftest at all, the failure is most likely one of the following (go to section 1 below to troubleshoot):
- Bad cable from the Timer to the Tree (hardware failure)
- Timer is not sending data (hardware failure)
- Tree is not receiving data (hardware failure)

If the tree does step through some of the visual Startup Selftest, the failure is most likely one of the following (go to section 2 below to troubleshoot):
- The Tree Electronics has damaged components (hardware failure)
- Tree cable harness is not making good contact with Tree Electronics (connection failure)
Troubleshooting Section 1:
1) Does the display on the Timer power on when power is applied to the tree?

If the answer is NO - check the cable connections between the tree and the timer. Disconnect all other cables and track sensors to ensure one of these items is not shorting out the power to the Timer.
- If the Timer powers up with everything else disconnected, reconnect each track sensor and cable and ensure Timer powers up to help isolate the failing cable or track sensor..
- If the Timer does not power up after disconnecting other cables and tracks sensors, failure may be Tree-to-Timer cable.
- With the tree powered up and no cable connected, use a voltmeter to check for power between pins 1 and 4 on the tree connector. Voltage should range from 12.6VDC to 17VDC. If no voltage is present, Tree Electronics has a hardware failure. Remove the 6 outermost screws from the back panel of the tree. Remove the Tree Electronics assembly send the entire assembly to RaceAmerica for analysis and repair.

If the answer is YES – No further troubleshooting can be done. Most likely to least likely hardware failure is Tree Electronics, then Timer, then Tree-to-Timer cable. Send to RaceAmerica for analysis and repair.
Troubleshooting Section 2:
1) If one of the tree lamps stay illuminated through the entire Startup Selftest, the Tree Electronics has a hardware failure. Power off the tree and remove the six outermost screws from the back panel of the tree. Remove the Tree Electronics assembly, disconnect the tree harness cable connector from the circuit board. Send to RaceAmerica for analysis and repair.
2) If one of the tree lamps does not illuminate through the entire Startup Selftest, power off the tree and remove the six outermost screws from the back panel of the tree. Remove the Tree Electronics assembly, disconnect the tree harness cable connector from the circuit board. Inspect the harness connector for missing or bent pins or broken wires. If no physical damage is found, send the entire assembly to RaceAmerica for analysis and repair.
