Troubleshooting Guides

Problem: LED Displays does not show run times from the Timer AC4.
AC4 is connected to a 6560 or 6860 Display but no run times appear on the Display. The Display does power up to READY and the AC4 appears to power up correctly also.
The failure is most likely one of the following:
- Bad cable from AC4 to Display (cable hardware failure)
- AC4 and Display configuration settings not compatible (configuration issue)
- AC4 not sending data (data comm hardware failure)
- Display not receiving data (data comm hardware failure)
Troubleshoot through the possible solutions:
1) Replace the cable with pn 06-X100 or make one using RaceAmerica Application Note AN-CBL004 from our website at www.raceamerica.com/techsup.html

2) Recheck the AC4 mode of operation (PC, Slip, Log) and the Display DIP settings. Download the Owner’s Manuals for the 3800 and the 6560/6860 from our website at www.raceamerica.com/prodpdf.html

To test the data comm of the AC4 and the Display, use pn 6033A cable or make one using RaceAmerica Application Note AN-CBL008 from our website at www.raceamerica.com/techsup.html

Use our free utility software to test the Display data comm hardware. Download the Display Utility from our website at www.raceamerica.com/pcsw.html

3) Connect the cable pn 6033A between a PC serial 9-pin port and the Display. Set all DIP switches on the Display to the ON position and power up the Display. Run the utility and attempt to send data to the Display. If the Display does not display anything, the Display is probably in need of repair.

4) Connect the cable pn 6033A between a PC serial 9-pin port and the AC4 connector where the Display is normally connected. Run a terminal emulator program like HyperTerminal on the PC and configure the port for 9600 baud, no parity, 8 bit, 1 stop bit, no handshake. Manually start and end a run on the AC4. Verify if the PC has received a data string from the AC4. If no data string was received by the PC, the AC4 is probably in need of repair.
