Extension cable for hardwired hand controller

Postby Richkim » Fri Jul 06, 2018 8:17 am

One of the Digital Safety Flags on track has a hardwired hand controller connected to it with about 50 foot of wire. We want to place the flagman with the hand controller on the other side of the track about 120 feet away.

Is it possible to extend the cable on the hand controller without effecting performance?

Yes, there are extension cables available in 100 foot increments from RaceAmerica up to about 900 foot. These cables are heavily shielded, required especially when the length is about 300 foot or more. These extensions cables will act like giant antennas during lightning storms so it is best to disconnect the cable from both ends when not in use to avoid any damage or interference from the lightning. Check with your sales person for the length you need.

Since the hand controller already has a 50 foot cable, I will need the 100 foot extension. That will give me 150 feet total, long enough to move things around. Thanks.
