Original T-Link vs T-Link 2 compatibility

Our race group owns a timing system with the older original T-Link model. We are combining our equipment with another club who owns the newer T-Link 2 model. We tried using their equipment as backup a few races ago but never got the two sets of hardware to work. What should I be looking for to determine if the two sets of T-Links are compatible? Model numbers for our units is 5800A and the newer T-Links are 5810EXR.

Your model numbers for the two TLinks are on the same frequency band, which is required for compatibility. I am assuming all TLinks are in good working condition and the older TLinks work with other older TLinks and the newer TLinks work with other newer TLinks from each group.

Next check the Optimizer Code located on the bottom of each unit to verify they are the same. If not, one set can be changed to be compatible with the other set. They all must be on the same Optimizer Code for compatibility.

The 5810EXR model will have higher RF output than the 5800A model, like 250% the RF output signal strength. Once these units are made compatible, the 5800A can be upgraded to the same higher RF output as the 5810EXR as a way of making all the units operate at the same level.

Checked the Optimizer Code on each T-Link. 5800's are all E44 and the 5810's are all C17 so they are different and explains why they did not work as backup units.

Is it better to change the older 5800's to C17 or change the 5810's to E44?

E44 is the original Optimizer Code and would have a better chance of compatibility with other race groups if you ever want to use your equipment as a backup for them or visa versa. C17 is the Optimizer Code default for T-Link2 unless otherwise specified to be E44 compatible.

With the large number of T-Link2's out there, the Optimizer Code now changes for each new timing system sold to decrease the possibility of a new timing system interfering with an existing timing system nearby. To be completely isolated from all other timing systems, all the T-Links could be sent into RaceAmerica and have a unique Optimizer Code set for your combined group of equipment.
