Tree electronics has different connectors

Our track has two DTSS drag trees one as a backup we acquired from another track that stopped racing. The four connectors on the tree electronics board in one tree are different from the connectors in the other tree. Obviously a connector change on the newer tree but what if I need to service the older tree?

Yes, the connectors inside the tree have changed due to the previous connector being discontinued by the manufacturer. The new connector is more reliable connector with stronger locking mechanism making better contact in heavy vibration situations. We have a supply of the previous connector to service existing customer with the previous version of tree electronics.

The photo below illustrates the difference between the two versions of tree electronics. If you need to service the tree electronics, you will need to identify which connector your tree has installed. RaceAmerica is able to service both versions and offer replacements with either connector.

Thanks for the photo. Yes, we have one of each of these. Other than the connectors, is the tree electronics interchangeable between the trees if we were to change the connectors? Just thinking of a backup parts strategy.

One big difference with the current design is it is more robust in environments where power is unstable. More modern protective components are used. The previous connector will fit on the current board, The previous board will physically only work with previous connectors.

Another consideration is how old the previous connector code is running in the mcu chips. The current tree electronics has up-to-date code and their may be an issue if using an old tree electronics in a newer timing system.
